Introduction
Day three belongs to the fillies and the future: the Qatar Nassau Stakes brings an unbeaten dual French classic winner to Goodwood, the Richmond and the Gordon give the next generation their stage, and around them sit a heritage handicap, two cavalry-charge handicaps, a fifteen-runner maiden where the breeding data does the talking, and the World Pool mile that closes the card. Every race is part of the HKJC World Pool, with British and international Tote pools co-mingled into one deep global pool, and the Placepot covers the first six races.

Today’s guide includes something we promised on launch night: total honesty about what the model can and cannot see. The Nassau is the race where our data has a blind spot, and rather than hide it, we walk you through it, because knowing when to trust a number is half of using it well.
WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN
TPR is our machine-learning rating, and it now reads as each horse’s share of the race: every field adds up to exactly 100, so a TPR of 25 means a genuine one-in-four share of the contest. If a horse is withdrawn, the shares redistribute automatically. Across 836,398 historical predictions, the winner came from our top four 73% of the time, and from our top three 62%.
Class-adjusted speed figures are our record of how fast a horse actually went, adjusted so figures compare like for like across races; we quote them throughout. And new this week, our rating enginefollows every horse through its whole career and separates what a horse has proven (its ability) from how sharp it is right now (its form, measured in pounds), combining them into the level it is ready to run to today. You will see us lean on these where they earn it, and when the engine has seen a horse fewer than three times, we say unproven rather than pretending to certainty. In the race data tables below, these readings appear as the Abl, Form and Oper columns beside each runner.
Convergence Analysis
Where multiple independent data points, the TPR rating, ability, form, recent speed ratings, trip and going profile, course form, trainer momentum, and historical pace-and-draw fit, all point to the same horse, we call that convergence. It is the foundation of everything we do. A horse can top the TPR rating, but if they have never been tested at today’s trip and the trainer’s strike rate has halved in the last month, the convergence is weak. When everything aligns, the signal is strong. We will show you exactly where that happens, race by race.

Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap

Day three opens with a fourteen-runner heritage handicap for the three-year-olds, and the pace map promises honesty: five of them want the lead. Our TPR shares read EVANESCO 12, SAVVY DISKO 11, LION OF ALBA 11, then GONNA FLY, DIAL ME IN and STRENGTH OF SPIRIT together at 8, with HARMONICS 7. A flat top like that hands the decision to the layers underneath, and the layers point away from the head of the market.
Start with the honesty. EVANESCO tops the shares on class and a banked Goodwood track figure of 161, the best conditions read in the race, but his trail is fading (152, 121, 151, 108, then 69 last time), his form reading is cold, and the Johnston stable sits at 43% reliability, the exact warning pair this week has punished. GONNA FLY owns the biggest figure in the race, a 182 last time, but it stands beside a 48 and a 53, the nakedest spike on today’s card, and by now you know what our model does with spikes.
STRENGTH OF SPIRIT is our idea of the race, and the case is the week’s winning shape in miniature. He posts the top Operating figure in the field, the engine’s read of the level a horse brings today, off ten career runs, so nothing about him is estimated. His last two figures are building, 140 then 155, he drops five points in grade on our class ladder, and, decisively, he is a hold-up runner in the race where five rivals will burn each other for the lead: the Twilight Calls shape from day one, recast. Karl Burke’s yard runs level with a strong baseline, and he is fresh from thirty days off. The honest notes: today’s stable reliability reads 48%, and Pierre-Louis Jamin is a workmanlike rather than headline booking.
SAVVY DISKO is the breakthrough case. Three modest figures, 58, 90 and 83, then a 164 last time, the second-biggest recent number in the race, with the second-steepest form reading behind it. Lightly raced three-year-olds who leap like that are often announcing a new level rather than fluking one, the Hatteen pattern from yesterday’s card, and Billy Loughnane stays aboard. The counterweight is loud and we will not whisper it: the S Woods stable is running fourteen points below its own twelve-month baseline at 33% reliability, the coldest yard signal on today’s card, and he is one of the five in the speed war. The figures say believe; the yard says beware; the price should split the difference.
Where the data lands: STRENGTH OF SPIRIT, the top Operating figure with the race shape rigged in his favour, from SAVVY DISKO, the breakthrough figures with the cold-yard caveat attached. HARMONICS, the steepest form reading in the race for the Gosdens with Shane Foley over to ride, and LION OF ALBA, joint-top ability with a banked track figure, are the widens leg one wants.

Markel Richmond Stakes (Group 2)

The Richmond brings ten two-year-old colts down the Goodwood six, and it is a race about the difference between evidence and reputation. The shares read MANS BEST FRIEND 20, FLANN SUNNA 15, JAAN KI TUKRI 13, ADAAY OF SCARLETT 11, with CUT A DASH and NIGHT IN VEGAS at 10. Our two picks sit first and third, and the case for taking them in the other order is the whole story of the race.
JAAN KI TUKRI owns the deepest body of work in the field and the biggest number in it, and neither is close. His 205 last time is twenty-six points clear of anything any rival has ever posted, he has five completed runs while the two ahead of him on the shares have two apiece, his going and distance figures are both banked at the top of the field, and he drops in class, the average grade of his last three starts sits four points above today’s contest. He is a front-runner with proven early speed. Now the honest catch, because our own rules demand it: Clive Cox’s stable reliability reads 36%, the same warning light we have flagged on rivals all week, and it applies just as loudly when the horse is ours.
MANS BEST FRIEND is the reputation, and it is a serious one: Ballydoyle, Ryan Moore, the model’s top share, the steepest form reading in the race at plus nine point seven, and a 179 last time that came with the visual impression of plenty left. But the engine has seen him exactly twice, his debut figure was an unremarkable 76, and he returns in just eight days. Two-year-olds with one big number and one famous trainer have a habit of being shorter in the market than in the data, which is precisely why he is our second string rather than our first.
FLANN SUNNA is the same two-run shape as the favourite, a 168 and a plus-eight form reading for Crisford and Buick, and the obvious widen. ADAAY OF SCARLETT is the classiest on official figures at 105 with five honest runs, the reliable place profile. NIGHT IN VEGAS brings a banked Goodwood track figure of 154 and the second-best Operating level, but his yard reads 36% too, and HICKORY LAD, bottom of the shares, owns the most consistent five-run trail in the race and the deepest class average, the deep-value thread for exotic players.
Where the data lands: JAAN KI TUKRI, five runs, the biggest figure and the banked conditions, to beat the reputations with evidence, from MANS BEST FRIEND, the improving Ballydoyle colt whose ceiling nobody has seen. Flann Sunna and Adaay Of Scarlett make the leg-two widens.

Maison Perrier Gordon Stakes (Group 3)

The Gordon is seven three-year-olds over an extended mile and three, the St Leger trial of the summer, and the model cannot split the top of it: GERYON, ENCELADUS and SHAIHAAN all at 18, then BAY OF BRILLIANCE 14, MAGNETUDE 12, VENETIAN LACE 11 and SAHARA KING 9. A dead-heat on the shares hands the verdict to the layers, and the layers give us two horses with peaks nothing else here can match.
GERYON is our pick of the tie. His 221 two starts back is one of only two 200-plus figures in the field, his Operating level of 102 is second only to a rival we will treat with caution below, his form is warming, and he drops five points in grade. Most tellingly of all, he is the only hold-up runner in the race: seven-horse Group races at Goodwood have a habit of turning tactical, and the one closer gets the finish run to suit. Ger Lyons and Colin Keane, the combination behind Diego El Queso’s big run on day one, ship him over fresh from a fourteen-day break. The yard’s 46% reliability figure is the honest soft spot.
SHAIHAAN owns the other giant peak, a 229 two back, plus the biggest recent figure in the race, a 188 last time that doubles as a banked distance figure at today’s exact trip. And his class credential is the deepest on the card: the average grade of his last three starts is 133 on our ladder, dropping thirteen points into this, he has been running in the summer’s championship three-year-old races. He is also the only confirmed front-runner in the field, so Tom Marquand can dictate. Two towering peaks, the lone closer and the lone leader: the race compresses to our pair from both ends of the pace map.
The one to treat carefully is VENETIAN LACE. He carries the highest official rating, and the engine’s highest established ability by nine clear points, but his form reading is cold, he has no recorded figure in either of his last two starts, and his yard reads 43%: enormous back-class, no current evidence, the exact pattern that has lost this week every time it has been favoured. ENCELADUS shares the top of the market for the Joseph O’Brien yard, nineteen above baseline at 70% reliability, but his four-run trail tops out at 126 and the clock needs a career best. BAY OF BRILLIANCE brings a banked track figure of 155, and MAGNETUDE, the steepest form reading in the race for the hot James Owen stable, is the widen.
Where the data lands: GERYON, the closer with the 221 peak and the race run to suit, from SHAIHAAN, the deepest class and the biggest recent figure, controlling it from the front. Magnetude and Enceladus make the leg-three widens, and Venetian Lace is the short price the data respectfully declines.

Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1)

The Nassau, and a confession before a single number: this is the race where our data has a blind spot, and we are going to show it to you rather than hide it. Our figures cover Britain and Ireland. DIAMOND NECKLACE has spent 2026 in France, winning the French Guineas at Longchamp and the French Oaks at Chantilly, both Group 1s, both untouched by our ratings. The engine has seen her exactly twice, as a juvenile in Ireland last summer, which is why she carries our Unproven badge and a 20 share while the model’s arithmetic hands FRIENDLY SOUL a towering 44. This is the rare race where the badge runs backwards: everything the engine cannot see is in her favour.
So here is the full case for DIAMOND NECKLACE, ours and the record’s together. What our engine did see, it loved: her two Irish juvenile figures were a 180 and a 196, the biggest numbers in this field, posted before she ever left home, and her established ability reads top of the race even from that thin file. What it could not see is better still: five runs, five wins, the Marcel Boussac, then this spring the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches at four to five, then the Prix de Diane at one to two, Ryan Moore aboard both times as he is today. Unbeaten, a triple Group 1 winner at three, by St Mark’s Basilica out of the family that keeps producing Chantilly winners. The model gives her 20 because it cannot read French. We can.
FRIENDLY SOUL is the model’s biggest single conviction of the entire week at 44, and she is our second pick on merit, not on politeness. Joint-top Operating figure, form warming, a banked distance figure of 167 at today’s exact trip, six fully-recorded runs, John and Thady Gosden at 78% reliability, William Buick riding, and a five-year-old mare’s strength against the three-year-old allowance. If the French form is a mirage, she is the one holding the mirror. The shape suits her too: she races prominently, and only one rival wants the lead.
The rest, quickly and honestly. SEE THE FIRE carries the highest official rating in the race and a banked 167 track figure, but she reads the coldest on the card across eighteen runs, and cold back-class in a five-runner tactical Group 1 is a trap we have named all week. MOMENTS OF JOY, tenth behind Diamond Necklace at Chantilly, is Ballydoyle’s pace angle: she will make it, which suits both our picks. BOTAGOZ, a 167 banked at the trip and form moving the right way, is the only other progressive profile, and in a five-runner race the Placepot pays two places only, so the leg is effectively our pair or bust.
Where the data lands: DIAMOND NECKLACE, unbeaten and better than our own numbers can prove, to win the race our model cannot fully see, with FRIENDLY SOUL, the 44 share and the week’s loudest engine conviction, the one genuine alternative. The honest place to be in leg four is with both.

Buccellati Handicap Stakes

Eighteen sprinters, five furlongs, twelve of them wanting to be forward, day three’s banker-killer, and the shares say so: NAANAS SHADOW tops it at 18, OLD IS GOLD 14, then a cliff to SCHRODINGERS CAT at 8, COYY 7, and a floor of 6s and 5s including BAKER BLUE. As on both previous days, the flatness is the message: play this wide, hold it lightly, and let the layers pick the anchors.
SCHRODINGERS CAT has the trail we trust most in any sprint this week: 50, 104, 121, 138, 156, five runs, five improvements, the Hatteen curve wearing a different name. That 156 is the biggest recent figure among the principal group, his Operating level of 95 is second in the entire field, his form is warming, he drops three points in class, and he races prominently rather than in the six-way war for the lead. Fourteen career runs make every number trustworthy. The Tuer yard is six above its baseline; its 42% reliability figure and an unfashionable jockey are why the price will be honest.
BAKER BLUE is the ammunition case: a 171 last time, the biggest figure in the race, and a 168 two starts before it, so two of his last three are the two biggest numbers anyone here has ever posted, with the biggest class drop in the field attached, eight points, he has been sprinting in far deeper races. The honesty: a 35 sits between those peaks, his form reading is flat, he is drawn wide in thirteen, he is part of the front war, and the Cunha stable reads 43%. Volatile, dangerous, and at the price the volatility is paid for.
NAANAS SHADOW, the model’s top share, gets the honest paragraph: the signal is real, a four-point gap in an eighteen-runner sprint, a small Katie Scott yard running twenty-three above its baseline, and Oisin Murphy booked for it, the small-stable booking tell that has paid all week. But his figures top out at 133, his form reading is flat, and he is one of the six who want the lead: all situation, no clock, and we want him in the wide lines rather than in bold. MISS YECHANCE, the top Operating figure in the field and a 190 peak for the Burke yard, joins him there. OLD IS GOLD, the best pure engine profile in the race with a banked track figure for Balding and Doyle, has been off 97 days, which is the whole argument against.
Where the data lands: SCHRODINGERS CAT, five improvements in five runs and the field’s second-best Operating level, with BAKER BLUE, the two biggest figures anyone here owns, the volatility play at a price. But this is leg five, and leg five is where tickets die: four deep, minimum.

Whispering Angel Nursery Handicap

A nursery is the handicapper’s first guess at eighteen two-year-olds, which makes it the data’s kind of argument, and the shares treat it with respect: SHADOW KING and MIA FANTASIA at 11, CILICIAN 10, WISE AND WONDERFUL 10, MY AALI BABA 8, THE GINGER KID and THE BOOKKEEPER 7. Six want the lead. In races where every official mark is provisional, we lean hardest on the shape of each figure trail, and one trail here is shaped differently from all the others.
CILICIAN owns the top Operating figure in the race and the steepest form reading among the properly-raced principals, but the argument is the band: 106, 106, 128, 118, four runs inside twenty-two points of each other. In a nursery, where single big numbers are usually accidents of race shape, the juvenile who brings the same level every time is the one whose handicap mark means something. He drops five points in class, races mid-division while six rivals fight for the front, comes back in thirteen days, and Tom Marquand rides for a Meehan yard whose reliability reads a solid 59%.
MIA FANTASIA wears the Unproven badge, two runs, and this is the day-two Wild Blossom lesson with the polarity reversed: her badge covers good evidence, not weak evidence. Both her figures are real, a 127 and a 135, her form reading is plus six, she drops six points in class, and Hugo Palmer books Oisin Murphy. Short evidence that points up is a different proposition from short evidence that points nowhere, and the distinction is exactly what the badge exists to make you check.
The wideners carry genuine substance today. CASH COVE owns the best full trail in the race, his last three figures all 140-plus (149, 143, 154), and he is a hold-up runner with the speed war in front of him; a draw of seventeen and a 43% yard are what keep him out of bold type at a 6 share. MY AALI BABA is the booking tell: David Evans’ stable, which won Tuesday’s Charlton with Supreme King, books Colin Keane, and the colt’s going and distance figures are both banked at 126. SHADOW KING tops the shares but returns in seven days with a 37 and an 83 lurking in his trail, and THE GINGER KID’s 166 sits beside a 34, today’s nursery spike.
Where the data lands: CILICIAN, the band in the race full of guesses, with MIA FANTASIA, the short book whose every page is good. Cash Cove and My Aali Baba are the leg-six widens, and both are live enough that the four-deep habit stays in force.

Tatler British EBF Maiden Fillies Stakes

The Tatler maiden falls outside the Placepot’s six legs, and it brings the week’s purest test of a question we promised to answer: what do you do when twelve of the fifteen runners have never set foot on a racecourse? The shares lean on the little evidence there is, AVALON QUEEN 24, CLARITY 16, SO LOVELY 16, BEGUILED 11, but with this many blank pages, today is the day the breeding data earns its seat at the table. So this race, we are reading the pedigree page first, and we are backing the two best-bred fillies in it: both, as it happens, by the same elite sire.
SO LOVELY is the blend: the best evidence-plus-pedigree package in the race. By Wootton Bassett, whose stock rates 87 on our sire book, the joint-best page here, out of a Galileo mare, the classic elite cross, with one run already banked and Ryan Moore staying aboard for a Ballydoyle operation running six above its baseline. Her debut figure was a modest 111, but modest debuts from this yard routinely precede leaps, she returns in a purposeful fourteen days, and in a race of unknowns, a known floor plus that ceiling is the strongest hand dealt.
LA BASSETTE is the conviction play, and we will not pretend otherwise: a debutante at a 2 share, bold because of her page. Wootton Bassett again, this time over a Siyouni mare, an 87-over-81 pedigree read that outranks everything in the field bar her stablemate-by-sire above, trained by Clive Cox with P J McDonald up. The engine cannot rate her, the market barely knows her, and the only information that exists, her blood, is close to the best on offer. This is the breeding lesson from our guide made flesh: when the form book is blank, the stud book is the form book. The Cox yard’s 36% reliability figure is disclosed, as it was in race two.
And the honesty paragraph matters more than usual, because the filly we have passed over is the model’s pick. AVALON QUEEN has the top share by eight points, the only two-figure trail in the race (125 then 136, improving), the top Operating figure by ten, and warming form; her page (by Masar) is the most ordinary among the principals, and pages are what we chose to weight today. If proof beats pedigree this evening, she is the one who proves it, and she heads the win-and-place alternatives. SIENA STORM, by Night Of Thunder, the top-rated sire in the race and the sire of the unbeaten Bow Echo, out of a Sea The Stars mare, is the other debutante the breeding data flags, for an Ed Walker yard thirteen above baseline. BEGUILED, the Gosden-Buick newcomer, is the market-watch: if she is strong in the ring, respect it.
Where the data lands: SO LOVELY, the elite cross with a run in the bank and Moore in the saddle, from LA BASSETTE, the best blood money can back at the price. Avalon Queen and Siena Storm complete the win-and-place shortlist on the day the stud book does the talking.

HKJC World Pool Handicap Stakes

The World Pool closer, outside the Placepot, is a twenty-runner mile with the most lopsided pace map of the week: fourteen of the field want to be forward, and precisely one horse is a confirmed hold-up runner. The shares are a five-way dead-heat at 8, EXCLUSIVE CODE, RUNSWICK, EUSTON HALL, GO RIMBAUD and GET OUTTA HERE, which, by now you know the drill, hands the whole verdict to the layers.
RUNSWICK is the figures case: a 147 last time, the biggest recent number in the race, backed by a banked distance figure of 136 at today’s trip and a form reading that is warming rather than cooling. Seven career runs, a two-point class rise he can absorb, and the Ed Dunlop yard running eleven above its twelve-month baseline with Daniel Tudhope aboard. The honest note is the draw: stall nineteen of twenty, which on the Goodwood mile asks for either an early decision or a patient one, and Tudhope is good at both.
EXCLUSIVE CODE completes the pair on the engine: the top Operating figure in the field, a banked Goodwood track figure of 137, the rail draw in stall one, and a five-point class drop, the only principal meeting easier company than he has been keeping. James Doyle rides, back after 42 days. His stable’s 47% reliability reading and the freshness question are the honest hesitations, and the price should carry both.
The one that will keep us honest is GET OUTTA HERE: the steepest form reading in the race and the only hold-up runner in a field where fourteen go forward, with Jamie Spencer, the great delivered-late specialist, booked for the ride. If the mile collapses the way the map suggests it might, he is the horse running through the wreckage, and he was in our bold pair until the final cut: the weakest established ability of the principals and a five-point class rise are why he mans the widens instead. GO RIMBAUD, Gosden and Buick back in thirteen days, is the connections thread without a matching figure. RICHIES ROCKET owns the top ability in the race and a ten-point class drop but reads cold, the back-class trap, and VINCENZO PERUGGIA’s 152 sits between a 44 and an 88, the week’s closing spike.
